The year 2025 promises to be very interesting in the automotive industry as it continues its shift away from fossil fuels. While sales of pure battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) fell a bit at the start of this year, they picked up in the second half, especially in the luxury car market, which now accounts for nearly three fourths of total American EV sales. Meanwhile, sales of hybrid vehicles spiked wildly. All together, these electrified vehicles accounted for a record 20% of total US vehicle sales.
Will this trend continue under the intentional mayhem that is the core strategy of the incoming national government? Who knows. So we underscored this unpredictability in our annual list of the cars we are most excited to see and drive in 2025.
While most of the lists in the past few years have consisted solely of electrified cars, this year we reflect this uncertainty with a few gasoline-powered cars, including a little something for everyone in terms of price, style, performance, and vehicle type. Check it out and see if you find something for your wish list. And check back to our motoring coverage regularly to discover what we think once we have a chance to drive these.
